Kashmir is one of the few destinations where each season feels like a different trip. Choosing when to go depends on what you most want to see and how you like to travel.
Spring: March to May
Spring brings blossom to the orchards and the famous tulip garden in Srinagar, usually at its best for a few weeks around April. Days are mild, though evenings can still be cool.
Summer: June to August
Summer is the season for the high meadows. Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg are green and open, and it is the most comfortable time for walks and day hikes.
Autumn: September to November
Autumn turns the chinar trees red and gold. Skies are often clear and the light is beautiful for photography, which makes it a favourite with couples.
Winter: December to February
Winter covers Gulmarg in snow and brings skiing, sledging and snow views. Some roads close after heavy snowfall, so we keep winter itineraries flexible.
Our suggestion
For a first visit, late spring and early autumn offer the best balance of weather, scenery and comfortable travel. Tell us what you want to see and we will suggest dates that suit.
