Many travellers think of the monsoon as a season to avoid. In Kerala, it can be one of the most rewarding times to visit.
Landscapes at their greenest
From June to September the hills of Munnar and the backwaters around Alleppey turn a deep, vivid green. Waterfalls are full and the air is fresh.
A traditional time for Ayurveda
The cool, humid weather is traditionally considered ideal for Ayurvedic treatments, and many resorts offer dedicated programmes during these months.
Fewer crowds
Hotels are quieter and often better value. Sightseeing takes a little more flexibility, so we build in spare time for days when the rain sets in.
Plan it well
Pack a light rain jacket and quick-dry clothes, and allow extra time for hill drives. We adjust each itinerary to the weather on the ground.
